The Philippines and The Olympics
Filipinos generally do not have a big presence in the Olympics although have had a few moments to gloat about.  The first medal was awarded to Teofilo Yldefonzo in 1929 , a silver in the 200m breaststroke.

Mansueto Valesco won a silver in light weight boxing at the Atlanta  Olymics in 1996.

Altogether, the Philippines has won 9 medals since they joined the International Olympic Committee in 1929.

They still have not won a gold.
